Bonaire offers excellent lodging, dining, and diving, plus unusual island touring and even casino gambling excitement. Bonaire's sister islands, Aruba and Curacao, feature beautiful beaches, unique shopping, world-class windsurfing, and more.
However, if great diving is your prime interest, Bonaire is the place to be. It's easy diving all the way, with virtually no current. The reefs begin quite shallow, and many are close to shore, allowing for both boat and beach diving.
Marine Park Fee: In 1979, Bonaire become one of the first islands in the world to protect its vital coral reef environment through the creation of a National Marine Park. As a result, 25+ years later, Bonaire continues to offer some of the best diving and snorkeling in this hemisphere. In 2005 a new Nature Fee was introduced, giving people year-long access to both the marine park, and Washington-Slagbaai National Park. All scuba divers entering the Bonaire National Marine Park (BNMP) must pay a fee of $25.00 USD per year. (Please note that this Marine Park fee is not included in the package pricing that you will find below.)
Divers continue to receive the coveted BNMP Tag. All others who use the waters of the BNMP including snorkelers, windsurfers, kayakers, sport fishermen, kite boarders, etc., will be charged a Nature Fee of $10.00 per year and will also receive a specially designed tag similar to the current BNMP Tag.
With the new Nature Fee, in addition to being allowed to enjoy the Marine Park for a period of one year, all persons who pay the Fee (both divers and other users), and show their tag along with their printed receipt, receive complimentary admission to Washington-Slagbaai National Park throughout the year their tag is valid. Funds collected from the Nature Fee are used for research, monitoring, education, law enforcement, information distribution, and maintenance of the marine park.
